Getting Your Home Ready For The Summer Months

This post is contributed and contains links.

With summer fast approaching you might be dreading the usual hot stuffiness that fills your home both at night and during the day. The good news is there are a few things that you can do to stop the effects of summer from ruining your day. If it isn’t the heat that is bugging you then it is the flies that come with the heat. Take a look below at ways to make sure this doesn’t put a dampener on your summer plans.

Fly Screens

In the height of summer, the insects can be everywhere. This is simply due to them coming out to enjoy the sunshine and the warmth. However, they can become a nuisance when they constantly enter your home or garden. You can just be chilling in your kitchen when a wasp decides to come in uninvited. There are many ways to deal with this, it just depends if you want to eradicate the problem once it arrives or whether you want to prevent it from happening.

You could put up flycatchers in your home, these are sticky pieces of paper that you attach to the ceiling, they catch flying insects as they are attracted to the scent it gives off. There is a way to deter the flies and insects coming into your home, if you hang a food bag with water and pennies this will confuse them so they fly away. Fill a clear food bag halfway with water, place three to four pennies in the bag and hang it up by your doorway.

Cool It Down

If you find your home is way too hot during the day, subsequently then being too hot at night you can do some things to cool your home down. You can buy tower fans and place them in your rooms during the day. The problem with fans is that they can severely dry the air out around you, making it a struggle on your lungs. If you find yourself with a dry mouth and a bit of a cough in summer it could be due to your fan usage.

Something that is much better for the environment and your health is an air conditioning unit. If you already have one then it is a good idea to get it checked out before you start using it. Aircon units need regular maintenance checks to stay in full working order. If you find that your air conditioning unit is broken or malfunctioning then you can contact an Electric System Repairs company to try and fix it for you.

Curtains/Blinds

Finally, one more hack for keeping cool in the summer months is to keep the blinds and curtains closed during the day. If they are open then the sun can position itself directly in your rooms, this causes the rooms to overheat and it can be very difficult to cool them down. If you invest in a good quality pair of thermal curtains then this will keep the heat out in summer and welcome the heat in winter.
