Hi there!

Hey lovelies, welcome to SDB! I'm Natasha. I am a walking, talking mombie fueled by coffee. I am obsessed with shoes, all things glittery and/or sparkly, and I have an owl obsession. We talk about everything from motherhood, lifestyle, and all things inbetween. I am a mom of three kids and we reside in the Pacific Northwest. Thanks for tagging along! Now lets sit back and sip on a cup of coffee in the AM or wine in the PM and lets relax.

Inspiration Is A Resource We Can All Use From Time To Time

This post is contributed.

Inspiration is not just a strange and unknowable form of play-pretend we use to help us through the hard moments. It’s something that can help direct our lives, influence our decision making, and can help us take the bolder option. It can often be something that gives us drive, ambition and interest in a certain topic. It’s also interesting that inspiration is something that transcends age, race, gender and profession. For example, a member of a royal household can be just as inspired by a piece of artwork as someone struggling to pay their rent half the world away.

This means that inspiration is a resource, and it’s something we could all use from time to time. A life without inspiration can quickly become saddened, unhappy and unsatisfactory. This is especially because as people with a usual flow of routine, we can quickly become bored when the emotional root of our interest starts to wane.

In order to ensure your inspiration is always kindled like a fire, consider our advice:

Find Inspiration In People

Finding inspiration in people is perhaps one of the most important lessons you can learn. For example, finding highly competent people in the industry you aspire to be part of can help you not only understand an ideal career path, but potentially help you celebrate in their achievements also. For examples, Cynthia Telles Kaiser Permanente boasts a range of excellent work in the psychiatric field, working in both philanthropic organizations, in clinics, and in the private sector. Stories like this can teach you that no matter how specialized you are, you can also translate those skills to something that has even more of a positive impact, and that strength in the working field needn’t always adapt to the easiest line of least-resistance.

Find Inspiration In Yourself

Finding inspiration in yourself can be an essential part of growing. For example, you will definitely have things you are proud of yourself for, and it’s likely that those are things you wish to one day replicate. If you have the courage to, you might choose to express more frequently that which you like about yourself. Do you have the courage to express yourself diligently when a problem occurs? Are you quick thinking, or great in a team? Try to emulate that feeling when pushing forward, and always consider that you can be the best if you try. Use your weaknesses as a measure of what you need to work on, a temporary hurdle and not a permanent failing. This way, you steward the healthiest mindset possible.

Find Inspiration In How Much There Is To Learn

Once you begin to truly develop an interest and a working capacity in something, it can be humbling to see just how deep the rabbit hole goes. With the willingness to grasp this with both hands, you can fall in love with a craft, and that can be what sustains you. For example, a scientific field will always have its mysteries, and maybe you are the one to solve them. Cooking is a rabbit hole that never ends, as creativity brings with it substance and new possibilities. With this in mind, you will never be gated by artificial boredom.

We wish you nothing but the best of success in all that you do.

Until next time my friends.

Skin, Hair, Nails and Teeth: Sparkle and Shine all Year Round

This post is contributed.

Keeping on top of your personal appearance is very important to you, especially at the moment. You have been going through a bit of a confidence slump recently so you want to do everything you can to uplift your spirits again. When it comes to looking after your skin there are so many different techniques you have adopted over the years, but not everything has worked for you. The truth is, everybody is completely different so you need to find your own way of giving yourself a touch of sparkle and shine all year around. Follow some of the following advice and you will soon be able to have that twinkle in your eyes again.

Treat Your Teeth

Your teeth are probably one of the first things people notice about you when they meet you. When you flash a new friend a white pearly smile it is attractive and endearing. If you have been having trouble with your teeth for your whole life, then you will know exactly what it’s like to feel insecure about your grin. Why not visit a cosmetic dentist and see what they can do for you? Whether they give you a whiter smile or help you out with some shiny veneers, there are so many ways to treat your teeth to a much-needed makeover. Make sure you always practice good dental hygiene too, so that you can maintain that picture perfect smile for years to come.

Soothe Your Skin

If you want picture perfect skin then you’re going to need to change up some of your skincare habits. If you’re the type of person who sometimes forgets to take off her makeup at the end of an evening, then you might need to change this first and foremost. Every single day you need to spend time washing off your makeup so that your pores are clean and clear. Using a face mask on a regular basis will also help to clear up any unwanted blockages. Look for facial cleansers that contain salicylic acid if you’re prone to acne. This will help to free your pores of unwanted oil and sebum. Moisturizing with an oil free moisturizer will also help to give your skin the much needed glow it deserves.

Eat Yourself Pretty

The food that you put into your body can have a huge impact on the way your skin looks and feels. If you don’t fancy having dull, dreary skin then you need to eat food that are going to revitalize you. Aim to incorporate plenty of health omega 3 into your diet, as well as lots of good fats. These can be found in foods such as eggs, salmon, nuts and avocados. Filling your diet with these types of delicious nutrients will help your skin to glow naturally.

Hydrate Happily

If you want beautiful skin, hair and nails then you’re going to need to drink a lot of water on a regular basis. Your body is made up of 75% water so you need to keep on topping it up as often as possible. Carry a reusable water bottle around with you so that you have a constant reminder to stay tooned up. If you don’t like the taste of plain water then why not try to spruce it up a little bit? Add in some fresh cucumber, lemon, strawberries or mint leaves and you will have a much more interesting concoction to keep you happily hydrated.

Create Lovely Locks

Your hair can begin to look limp and lifeless if you don’t take good care of it. Boost it up with some volumizing shampoo and conditioner so that you are always showing off the shimmer and shine at its best. Make sure you head to the hairdressers regularly so that you can get your split ends chopped off. This will not only give your locks a freshened up look, but it will also help them to grow quicker if that’s what you’re aiming to do. There are several amazing hair growth treatments out there at the moment too, which you can massage into your scalp and watch the results happen over several weeks. Speak to your local hair care specialist and see which type of treatment would suit you the most.

Sassy Styling

When it comes to styling your hair, you might want to start getting a little more adventurous. If you’re the type of girl who always throws her hair back in a loose ponytail then you might want to shake it up a little. Invest in straighteners or curlers and do some experimenting whilst you have a bit of time at home. You will soon be able to find a sassy style that suits you more than anything you have ever tried before. From loose beachy waves to a sleek, straight bob, you never know what style you might discover.

Magical Manicures

There is something about getting your nails done which makes you feel like you have your whole life together. Make sure you are moisturizing your hands and nails regularly with a natural remedy such as almond oil. This will make your cuticles shrink and your nails grow longer over time. Once you have spent some time giving that little bit of tender loving care to your nails you might want to look online for some magical manicure inspiration. This will finish off your entire look flawlessly so that you can enjoy showing off your happy, well-manicured hands to everybody.

No matter what you want to improve, there will always be a way to make yourself feel fabulous again. Whether you’re treating yourself to a dental treatment or you’re finding a hair treatment to give some bounce to your lovely locks again, you will soon find a way to feel beautiful again. You deserve to feel amazing every single day so why not make a change right now? Soon enough you will have your own personal techniques that everybody will be asking about. From gleaming teeth to soft, glowing skin, it’s time to get your sparkle back right now.

Until next time my friends. Have a great day.

Makeup to Withstand Motherhood: Making Your Products Last All Day

This post is contributed.

As a busy mom, chances are your appearance doesn’t always rank that highly on your list of priorities. For most of us, it’s all about getting our child ready and getting out the door as quickly as possible in the morning to wherever we need to be- which can be a huge mission within itself. We then have to keep the house in order, run a million errands, pay bills and generally work through a to-do list which never seems to end. However with this being said, none of us want to neglect our appearance completely. If you do, it can really impact your confidence and self-esteem, so finding ways to look nice without spending hours doing so is important. Here’s how you can go about it.

Perfect a five minute makeup routine

There might have been a time before children where you’d sit at your dressing table in the morning and take your time getting ready. Applying lots of different products, experimenting with different things and generally having fun with your look. But these days, you’re more pressed for time and so you need to find a routine that’s quick and easy. Perfect a look you can do in five minutes or less. Apply some foundation or concealer to even out your complexion. A swipe of blush or bronzer to give you a bit of a glow, and some mascara to open up your eyes and make you look less tired! Spending just this little bit of time in the morning can make you feel much more presentable for the rest of the day.

Find products that work

If you don't have time to be applying layers of foundation to build up the coverage, or lots of coats of mascara to get the effect you want then find products that work from the get-go. Generally, if you spend a little more you’ll often get a better quality product. But do check reviews before buying if you get chance. Find makeup that lasts all day, a good foundation won’t go patchy after an hour and a decent eyebrow pencil won’t fade by midday. A liquid matte lipstick will stand the test of time and keep your lips looking perfect, even after eating and drinking. Use the right tools to apply your makeup, for example a foundation brush can apply your base far better than your hands. If you are going to take the time to do your makeup then you want it to last.

Look after your skin

Looking after your skin is important. Not only will it prevent damage, but it will also make applying your products in the morning much easier. Try putting foundation over very dry skin for example and you’ll more than likely just make it look worse. It doesn’t take much time in the evening, use a cotton pad soaked in micellar water to instantly lift makeup off your skin. Give your face a wash with a gentle cleanser and apply a touch of night cream before going to sleep. You’ll prevent wrinkles, and give yourself a nice blank canvas for applying your makeup the next day.

Until next time,

4 Fun Craft Projects You Can Do With An Old Coffee Mug

This post is contributed.

Crafting is a great way to take something boring and make it into something special. A plain white mug is pretty boring but there are so many great craft ideas that you can do with one to make it into a more interesting coffee mug or something else entirely. If you’ve collected a load of mugs over the years that you don’t really use, these are some of the great things that you can do with them.

Plant Pots

One of the easiest ways to create a great atmosphere in the home is to put some plants around the place. You could spend a load of money on some ceramic pots from a garden centre or you could make something more unique and save some money at the same time by using mugs instead. They’re ideal for small plants like succulents or cacti and you can use them for a herb garden as well. You can decorate them any way that you like or even just leave them plain, they’ll still look great.

Vinyl Designs

If you want to put some more complex designs on your mugs to make them a little more interesting, you can use vinyl. You’ll need to get a cutter to cut out the designs for you because it can be a little tricky but there are plenty of great craft projects that you can do with vinyl so it’s a worthwhile investment. Check out vinylcuttingmachineguide.com for some more information on choosing the right one. Working with vinyl is great because you can create pretty much any design that you want, but it is difficult to get the hang of it so don’t expect to make it perfect the first time around.

Chalkboard Mug

Those are all great ideas for bringing a boring old mug back to life, but what if you can’t decide on just one design? Why not just make yourself a chalkboard mug instead so you can doodle something new on it every day? It’s so easy to make, you can just pick up some chalkboard paint from any good DIY or craft store and paint your mug. It’s ideal for work as well because you can use it to take notes so you don’t forget things. Just make sure that you’re careful when you’re painting it and you’re not getting any on the inside of the mug because it’s not safe for drinking.

Sharpie Mugs

There’s no need to spend your time looking for specific ceramic paints if you want to jazz up your mugs, you can just use a sharpie marker instead. It’s the easiest way to decorate a mug because you can just draw the designs on instead of having to mess around with paintbrushes. You’ve got to be careful though because a lot of people try to make a sharpie mug and then find that it all comes off when they wash it. That’s because they’re using the wrong type of sharpie. The standard ones won’t work, you need to find the oil based ones instead. They won’t rub off when you wash them.

These are all great ways that you can use your boring old mugs and do something more interesting with them.

Until next time my friends. Have a great day.

Finding Yourself Again

This post is contributed.

Totally bored of that look you’ve been rocking for at least a decade now? You might be looking to make a change but how do you go about stepping out of your comfort zone and changing the fundamental parts of your appearance? What will your friends, your partner or you family think if you come home looking unrecognizable from your old self?

Maybe it’s not going to be that drastic, but any change from a new haircut to clothes makeover requires a little bit of courage and a little bit of extra confidence on your part. If you’re looking to make a complete change, then take it one step at a time. We show you how:

Make A Plan

Perhaps you’ve lost your sense of self a little as a mom with young children or someone who’s chained to their desk. You need to get back to yourself and yourself needs a shake-up. It’s time to get planning and scheming.

Think about what it is you want to change about your look. Don’t set yourself unrealistic goals, work with the body you’re in rather than imagining yourself a difference size and shape, this is about a whole new you, not a whole new someone who doesn’t exist.

Work through a series of actions that you can do while staying in budget and setting yourself a little goal to achieve each month.

Maybe you’ll start by letting your hair down a little, literally. If you’re around small children or in an office all day, chances are your morning routine consists of tying it back to avoid it getting tangled up with sticky fingers or in the way of your computer screen. Consider investing in some luxury hair treatment products and give your locks some much needed TLC. Then it’s time to hit the salon for an amazing new style that gives you your confidence and sense of self back.

Self-Care

Sometimes you can go for days without taking a look in the mirror or checking in on your physical and mental health, so one major change you can make to your life is investing in a little self-care. Give yourself time to get a proper skin care routine in place so the mornings start with you and a little luxury pampering product. It doesn’t have to take long but a fresher look will radically change how you feel.

Hit The Shops

Check out your favorite fashionistas and lifestyle bloggers to decide on what you’re going to wear as part of your new look. If you’re worried about budget, think capsule and buy some wardrobe staples that can be added to as and when you have a little extra cash. Invest in a mix of good quality basics and cheaper accessories for a major new look that brings you joy.

No matter how busy you are or what’s going on in life, spending a little time to update your look and carry out some self-care is something you deserve, make it happen and see your confidence grow.

Transferable Skills That Will Help You In Any Work

This post is contributed.

We use so many different skills in our day-to-day lives that it can be hard to notice when we transfer them from one task to the next. But even though you don’t realize it, we all have a good deal of transferable skills that we can use, whether we are at home looking after the kids or at work typing at our desk. The best thing about these skills that are easily transferable? They are also ridiculously easy to pick up as well. With a little effort, you will be able to train yourself and pick up plenty of these skills. You’ll then be highly employable and will also find that they bring many benefits to your personal life as well.

But which are the transferable skills that will help you the most in the workplace? Here are a few that you might want to consider.

A Second Language

Having a second language under your belt will help you out in lots of different areas of life. Not only will it be great for when you go traveling, but it can also pay off in the workplace as many employees value employees who have marvellous language skills. Don’t worry if you can only speak English at the minute. You’ll be able to learn practical Spanish online, as well as a whole host of other European languages. It’s also worth checking out your nearest night school to see if they offer evening language classes.

Good Communication Skills

You should also work on perfecting your English communication skills as well as working on a second language. Good speaking and writing are not to be taken for granted. This is especially the case if you are a blogger or other home-based worker as you will probably be sending out emails and constantly creating content for your website. This content needs to be free from any spelling or grammatical errors or else it will make you look very unprofessional.

Empathy

It also pays to use a lot of empathy, both in the workplace and at home. This is especially the case if you have some employees, though, as it encourages you to see things from their side at all times. As this will make you a lot more relatable and make you seem human, you will find that your employers trust you more as a result. They will also be a lot more inclined to reach out to you whenever they run into any troubles.

Analytical Skills

You should also work on your analytical skills as well so that you can start to use a lot more logic in all of your decision making. This will prove to be very useful in the workplace as it gives you the chance to make more informed decisions. You won’t be so tempted to follow your heart which could be the wrong route when making decisions in a business environment.

Once you start to master all of the transferable skills above, you should find that you start to flourish more at work!

Until next time. Have a great day!
