Spectator Sports: The Perfect Means of Escapism

While it is important that we engage in intellectually stimulating activities that can improve our awareness of the world around us and help to broaden our horizons as individuals, it’s also important that we have a little down time too. As the saying goes, “all work and no play makes Jack a dull boy”. Now, increasing numbers of us are turning to reality television shows as our means of relaxation. We keep up with the Kardashians, watch reality game shows like Love Island and Big Brother, and immerse ourselves in social experiments like The Circle. But reality TV isn’t the only means of escapism from our day to day lives. You should consider getting involved in spectators sports too! Even if you’re not a particularly sporty individual yourself, watching team sports can give you a sense of exhilaration and can instill you with a sense of team spirit, as you unite with other individuals supporting the same team. What’s more? You don’t just have to watch through the television set - you can attend matches and games in real life as part of the crowd yourself! So, if this sounds good to you, here are a couple of sports you might start wanting to get involved with.


We’re all familiar with some of the basketball greats out there - Michael Jordan dominated the sport from the mid 1980s to the late 1990s, leading the Chicago Bulls to six National Basketball Association championships. But when was the last time you watched a game yourself? Find yourself a team to support and arrange to spend an evening watching ones of their games, whether this is sitting with snacks in front of your television or purchasing Lakers tickets and allowing the enthusiasm of the crowd to envelope you. Here are some of the basics so you can keep on top of what’s happening:

  • The court is separated into two halves, each team has a dedicated half and their aim is to shoot the ball through the hoop at their rival’s end of the court
  • The ball can be passed or dribbled while the players make their way down the court
  • When a team scores, they receive two points and the ball is passed to the other team
  • If anyone scores from outside of the three point arc marked on the floor, their team is awarded three points


Boxing is an extremely physical sport, so watching it isn’t for the lighthearted. However, you should bear in mind that various measures are taken to protect boxers - they wear protective gloves and there is a referee monitoring the match and intervening if things begin to go too far. For weeks ahead of the big fight, you can tune in to pre-match interviews and weigh ins where the individuals size each other up. Commentators cover the fight so you will generally have a good idea of what’s going on as you go along!

These are just two different sports that you might want to tune into. There are, of course, plenty more out there and it may take you a little time to find what truly appeals to you. But once you find it, you can guarantee that you’ll be hooked and highly entertained!

7 Ways To Feel Beautiful After Having Your Baby

Sorry, Not Sorry: 4 Ways To Stop Apologizing So Much

Demi Lovato is going through a lot right now, but she’s right about one thing. Saying sorry for things which are out of your control is a waste of time and energy. Still, the majority of us do it on a daily basis. How many times have you apologized for brushing past someone when it was their fault?

You might not see it as a problem yet it sets a precedent. Rather than taking control, we admit guilt and retreat into our shells. It’s not a nice way to live a life. So, here are four ways to stop being liberal with that four-letter word.

Express Yourself Differently

The reality is you’re not sorry but you want to show compassion. This sounds heartless but it’s not your fault something bad has happened. Still, a loving partner or family member can’t be cold which is why “sorry” gets used a lot. The trick is to express yourself differently without using the term. For example, you can say something such as “that must be tough to hear?” It has the same impact as the usual response yet you don’t have to bear the responsibility. Sometimes, physical gestures are as powerful as words.

Don’t Say Anything

Typically, the word “sorry” isn’t legally binding, yet there are times when it can act as proof. Think about a car accident. You’re sorry the incident happened in the first place, which is why the term slips out sometimes. To the opposite party, this is a sign that you’re to blame and might cost you a fortune in the long-term. In this scenario, never admit guilt. Troublesome Teen Issues That We Can Experience Again Later in Life!

Being a teenager is hard. You’re developing your identity, you’re experiencing changes and you’re really finding your feet in life. Here are some examples of how troublesome teen issues can affect us later in life!

Changing Appearance

During our teenage years, we go through some drastic changes which can be quite stressful and strange at times due to hormones. Later on we can experience changing hormones again which can lead to further changes which are even less fun! The menopause can cause strange hair growth, acne and weight gain. Even if you’ve been confident about your appearance for years, these kinds of changes can make you feel a little insecure, but luckily there’s plenty that can be done. A good exercise plan and a healthy diet will help to regulate hormones and reduce weight gain and bloating. If you notice hair growth on the face or other areas of the body it hasn’t been before, you could opt for waxing or laser hair removal, bleaching, depilatory creams and more. It makes it easy to find plenty of potential suitors and you can chat or meet until you find someone that’s right for you. Even as a fully fledged adult- it’s still nerve wracking though!

Mental Health

Mental health is ranked as one of the top issues teens face today, and while it can affect people of all ages you can also be more likely to experience it later on as well. Life changes like children leaving home and being left with an ‘empty nest’, being unsure of your identity and things like illness and death of parents can all contribute. Look after your mental health, make sure you’re reducing stress in your daily life and ensure you have a good support network around you.

Committing To Your Mortgage Until Debt Do You Part

Planning A Gap Year Without All The Stress

Gap years are such a brilliant idea if you just want to say goodbye to your life and travel the world for a few months. Everyone should try and see as much of this planet as possible, and taking a year out to travel is the best way to do this.

However, as amazing as they are, gap years can also be very stressful to plan. So, to help you out, here’s how you plan one without tearing your hair out and going crazy:

Consider Holiday Packages

No doubt there will be some countries you visit where you just want to relax and enjoy yourself. But, there will be others where there are so many different things you could do - and so much to see - that it makes your head explode just thinking about it. I would say that you shouldn’t plan a gap year without at least a year beforehand to get everything in order. This is because there are so many things to consider when you travel the world. We’re talking about visas, vaccinations, money, possible passport renewals, and so on. Trying to cram this all into the space of a few months will be torture. Leave a minimum of 12 months, but I think 18 months to two years is arguably even better. This gives you so much time to get things ready, and you have loads of time to save up for your trip as well. Save Up Twice As Much As You Need

Normally, you will figure out how much money you need when planning your gap year. Now, take that figure and double it, this will give you the amount of money you really need to save up. Get as close to this as possible, and you will be way less stressed when you’re traveling. It gives you a safety net in case you were very inaccurate with your estimations and end up spending your original guessed amount within a few months. Plus, any money you don’t spend can be used when you get home, so you don’t return totally broke.

I don’t think I’ve ever heard of someone that went on a gap year and didn’t absolutely love it. People say it changes your perspective on life and makes you a much better person overall. Sure, it can be pretty stressful at times as things can go wrong. But, if you follow the tips above, then it will be much easier for you to plan your trip without stressing out too much.

Stop Worrying About Money by Taking Control Now

Of all the things that can keep you up tossing and turning all night, money is one of the worst, and unfortunately, most common. So many of us are in debt, lacking savings or even worrying about how we’re going to pay the most important bills at the end of the month and it is leading to all kinds of anxiety. The good news is, it doesn’t have to be that way; it is possible to take control of your finances and stop worrying about money once and for all.

Of course, this won’t happen overnight, and depending on your current situation, it may take a few months or even years to be totally on top of your finances and free from worry, but the sooner you start, the sooner it will happen, and it WILL happen if you do the following…

Honestly Assess Your Financial Situation

If you want to take control and stop worrying, the first thing you need to do is to stop burying your head in the sand. Stop leaving those credit card bills to pile up and sto[ avoiding looking at your savings account because you know you’re going to be upset by the figures you see, and certainly stop spending your money without tracking.

If you want to get on top of this, you need to know exactly how much you’re bringing in and how much is going out. There are lots of excellent apps that will allow you to effortlessly track incomings and outgoings and you should download one as a matter of priority. Then, track all of your finances for a month, sit down and go over the data and get a clear picture of where you stand and what you need to do to start paying down debt and get back on track.

Draw Up a Budget

Once you know what you’re dealing with, it makes imminent sense to draw up a budget. This can be difficult if you’re not used to it, but there are many budgeting apps and resources that can help. Work out all of your monthly bills and regular spends on things like eating out, entertainment subscriptions, travel etc. and see where you can make savings and reduce outgoings. Then, draw up a sensible budget that leaves you with more money coming in than going out, if you can. Commit to sticking with your budget and you will start to make headway.

Tackle Debt as a Priority

If you are in debt, then tackling it should be a priority, not only because worrying about debt is one of the biggest stressors there is, but also because debt costs you a lot of money and you will never be financially well off with big debts in your name.

Debt consolidation loans are a good option for tackling debt because they take all of your debts and merge them into one manageable monthly payment. You can hopefully use the money you’ve saved by tightening your budget to clear this payment, and that will make life far much easier for you. The important thing is to take whatever steps you can to tackle the issue now; the longer you leave it, the more interest you will accrue.

Communicate with Your Family

If you have a spouse, or other members of family with whom your finances are entangled, it is a really good idea to talk to them about your finances and any issues you’re having. Not only will talking to someone you care about help to alleviate your stress, but you will also be able to ensure that you’re both on the same page when it comes to spending. Your spouse/family may not always have the same financial priorities as you, so it’s important that you reach a compromise if you want to stick to your budget and get a grip on your finances once and for all. It might not be ab easy conversation, but it is one that you really need to have for the good of you all.

Keep a Buy it later List

This is a really simple, but surprisingly effective tool that can help you to reign in your impulse to spend if that is something that is stopping you from being fully in control of your finances. Basically, you carry a small notebook with you (or you can use your phone if you like) and whenever you come across something that you have the urge to buy, instead of getting your credit card out and purchasing it right there and then, you note it down on your list, telling yourself that you can buy it at a later date if you really want to.

After 30 days, you review your list and if there is anything on there you really want to by, you can. If not, you simply cross it off the kist and forget about it. Try it and you’ll be surprised just how often the desire for stuff you feel like you must have in the moment fades. It’s a great way to cut down on spending without feeling deprived.

Set Goals

Setting goals that you will only be able to achieve by getting your finances in control is a great motivator for sticking to your budget, reducing your expenses, paying off debts and generally spending less where you can. Goals could be anything from taking that dream vacation to enrolling on a college course that will allow you to  pursue your dream career or go after a big life change. The only stipulation is that they should be sufficiently motivating to keep you on track.


Last, but certainly not least, you should save as much as you  can. This might not be easy in the early days when you’re paying down debt, but even if you can only save a dollar or two each week, it will get you into the habit and eventually you will build up an emergency cushion that will help you stay out of debt in the future.
