The Do's & Don't's Of Helping Someone You Love Face A Crisis

The body has two responses to a trauma: fight, or flight. It’s instinct, and when you’re the person who has been through – or is currently going through – that trauma, it can be very hard to predict when you will be back to yourself again. It can be hard to handle when your body is going through something that you’ve not dealt with before, but when you’re the caregiver for someone else who has had a trauma, life gets altogether very hard. If you let it, that is.

It is never easy to see a person that you love suffer. Trying to get into their shoes and their mind about what they are going through is virtually impossible, because most of the time their own transition is at the forefront of everything that they are doing in life. You need to be able to help them in their situation, because you know that you will feel like you are actually and active participant in their recovery when you do. It doesn’t matter whether you are currently helping them through an emotional trauma such as divorce, or a physical trauma such as the fallout from a vehicular or motorcycle. You want to be there for them, and that’s great. The key here is going to be knowing what to do and what not to do while you’re offering your support. So, below, you’ll find the things you should do and things you should avoid while caring for someone that you are supporting.

Do:
Make a freezer stock of meals. When someone is in crisis, cooking a nutritionally balanced meal the last thing that they want to deal with doing. Trying to fit life and cooking around appointments and visits can be impossible, so making them in advance and stocking the freezer could be the very thing that you need the most.
Offer cash to help. If a friend of yours is dealing with an accident, it’s likely that they’re not going to be working while they wait for a claim to settle and to recover from their motorcycle injuries. The best thing that you can do here is to offer cash to help, even if that’s offering to cover their utilities for a while.
Listen. When someone is hurting, a good, strong listening ear is often all they need to feel much better again.

Don’t:
Just turn up. Never just arrive at their home without prior warning and consent. It’s invasive and it’s upsetting to someone in a vulnerable position.
Pull up cliché phrases and quotes. Someone recovering from an accident doesn’t want to hear about someone who has it worse than they do; their problems and feelings are still valid despite the other evils in the world.
Be afraid. Just because a person is going through something, it doesn’t make them less of a person. They want you to treat them with the same quality and respect that you always did before.

Of course, these aren’t exhaustive, but if you’ve got these down you’re going to be the best friend that they could have.

How To Buy A Kickass Gift For Children's Parties

As parents, one thing we can all relate to is the struggle of buying a gift when your child is invited to yet another one of their friend’s birthday parties. The worry of buying something that the child won’t like is the first dilemma that springs to mind, and then the worry of how much to spend on that child comes into play. It’s a never ending battle of whether to simply give some money, or buy a gift that you hope they will enjoy. Not to worry, we’ve got a few tips on how to buy a kickass gift for children’s parties. Check it out:

Liaise with other parents

Another worry that may come to mind is buying a gift that someone else has already bought, so your first step should be to speak with parents of other children attending the party to see what gifts they are buying. This will not only make sure that you don’t buy the same thing, but it will give you an idea to go on. Perhaps you didn’t know that little Tommy loves Paw Patrol. Well, now you do!

Go for the unusual but useful

Sometimes the best gifts are those that you totally didn’t expect. So, rather than opting to buy a toy as a gift, why not buy something that’s totally unusual yet useful for the child? Things like a night light, or a pair of bamboo socks are great examples of quirky gifts that the child and parents will love equally. Get creative with your useful gift ideas and you’ll find that you’re never stuck for gift ideas again!

Decide on an amount for gift giving

Establish an amount that you want to spend on the gift so that you’re able to look at gifts within that price range. Most websites have the option to only display gifts within your budget and will make your life a lot easier when buying. You may choose to spend a little more on your child’s closer friends, but that’s totally up to you! After all, children enjoy opening the present just as much as they do playing with it!

Take notice of that particular child

Once you’ve had the invite, take notice of that child whenever you see them. You may notice that they have a favourite colour, or they’re really into their beanie hats. You’ll be surprised at how much you can pick up by just taking notice of what they look like! You may notice that a little girl loves different hair styles, so you could buy her a cute hair styling gift!

Ask your child!

Finally, one of the best ways of finding out what the child would love is by asking yours! Asking questions about what they like to play at school or what they talk about is usually enough to know exactly what to buy!

Good evening friends. I hope your week is going well. I have been under the weather but am feeling much better today.

Our boys were supposed to start school on Wednesday, but they had an unexpected extension to their summer break due to a teacher union strike. As of today, we have no idea when they will be starting school.

Do you have any plans for Labor Day weekend? We will probably just be hanging out at home.

Thanks for visiting today. Until next time.

There's Some DIY Tips Everyone Should Know

Your house is your haven, and it’s something you wouldn’t give up for the world. You can craft a truly personal space that has all kinds of furniture, decorations, and a bit of handy tech to make the place truly feel like a space you’d never want to leave! But all in all, there’s a lot that can go wrong, and you’re probably not that prepared to face them...

DIY is a skill that’s often in short supply around here, and there’s always at least one repair that needs doing! And in your quest to become a fully sustainable home owner, you’re going to need to know a couple of things to make sure the faucet never starts gushing water; here’s a quick shortlist of the best DIY tips everyone needs to have a grasp of.

Know the Basics

At the very least, you’re going to want to learn how to use a drill properly, without stripping any nail heads, and how to locate safe places in your walls and your floors to hammer in some nails without causing problems!

You’re also going to want to put a toolbox together, to make sure you’ve always got at least a basic set of equipment on hand in case of emergencies. You never know when one of these is going to crop up!

In the Living Room

It’s where we like to spend our free time, so we’ve probably dedicated a good few hours a day to this room. Let’s make sure we take care of it in return!

Keep your sofa away from the walls and try to keep a little bit of space between the bookcase and the wall behind it as well. This keeps condensation from overflowing your house, making it feel like you live in a bit of a flood, and helps the windows to stay strong too. And if you’ve just moved a bit of furniture, and found it’s left dents in the carpet that are just an eyesore, pop some ice cubes on the indented area and wait!

In the Bathroom

It’s one of the busiest parts of the house, and therefore you should know how to fix a problem here. You don't always have to visit https://www.mrrooter.ca/, although this sure wouldn’t go amiss, and with some DIY you can be super proud of yourself once you’re finished!

You can easily stop those bathroom pipes from creaking and sounding like they’re going to burst any minute by wrapping them in felt, preferably the adhesive backed kind from the hardware store. This keeps them from expanding too much. And you can also swap out any metal pipes under the sink for plastic ones fairly easily too; stops all that rust and limescale from building up!

DIY tips come in their thousands, so make sure you pay attention when someone has something to show you. You want to be as independent as possible, and this way you won’t be calling your dad out every time!

Top of the morning to you lovelies! I hope you are having a great weekend. Little Miss Rora is with her Grandparents for the weekend. We did a little school supply shopping yesterday for the boys and have plans to go to lunch at a food cart in Portland that my husband's former colleague just opened.

We also are going to an information session to learn more about modeling for my oldest son Amari. We were approached by a modeling agent earlier this week. He seems interested, so let's see what happens.

Thanks for visiting us today. Until next time.

The Many Ways To Improve Yourself

This post is contributed and contains affiliate links. By clicking on links I will not be compensated. All the views, thoughts, and/or opinions expressed in this article are those of the authors. I was financially compensated for the sharing of this article.

A lot of people are on a path of continual self-improvement. If you are such an individual, you are likely aware that there are many areas in which it is always possible to improve, and a number of ways to do so. Being able to conceal work on yourself is a part of what makes us human. But there are so many areas that you might be wanting to improve at any one time, and it's hard to say if any is more important than the other. It’s a good idea, instead, to try and work on as many of them as possible, so that you can become a much more rounded individual in general. In this article, we are going to look at some of the top things you might be keen to do to improve yourself. As long as you are working on these areas of yourself, you will certainly be moving in the right direction.

Appearance

Like it or not, your appearance is probably always going to matter to you at least in some respect. This is something which you can hardly change, although you might also find that you can somewhat alter how you approach such a thing mentally. Still, you will probably always be keen to keep looking as best as you can at all times, and it is definitely a good idea to make sure you're doing everything in your power to achieve that. As long as you do that, you should be able to ensure that you are going to keep improving your appearance as much as possible over time. When you do this, it’s important to remember that the only person you really need to please here is yourself. The gold standard should be whether you as an individual feel that you are looking as you would like to. The opinions of others is not what we are doing this for, although you might always have in the back of your mind the awareness of what others might think of your appearance as well, especially if you work on it a lot.

There are a number of things you can do to improve your appearance. The basics are also among the easiest routes to looking better: eating a healthy diet, exercising well, and looking after yourself in general. But if there is some kind of appearance issue you would like to fix permanently, then you might consider something more extreme like plastic surgery. Even for that, you have to know how to get healthy for surgery, so you will find that it allows you to look after yourself better anyway. However you do it, working on your appearance will certainly enable you to feel better about yourself, boost your confidence, and make sure that yo9u are always improving.

Confidence

Once you come to realise that confidence is something that can be developed and built upon, you might well find yourself wanting to do that all the time. The truth is that confidence is something innate in all of us, and it is only life circumstances and experiences which makes it seem any other way. If you want to improve and increase your confidence, this is something you can do just as easily as anyone else in the world - and appreciating that fact is an important early place to begin if you are going to do so. Once you have decided that you would quite like to increase your confidence, they are a number of angles you can work from at the same time in order to make that happen.

Firstly, be aware that true confidence comes from respecting yourself in some way or another. You can't fake confidence as much as you like, and that alone has its benefits, but the real thing is deeper, goes through you in a more powerful and direct way, and is ultimately a better feeling to have within you. So learn to love yourself for who you are. Secondly, you need to drop an idea of what others think of you if you are to be more confident, and for most people this is the hardest one of all. The irony is that once you stop caring what people think of you, what they think of you actually tends to improve. You can also boost your confidence by focusing on the simple things like good posture, looking after yourself in other ways, looking people straight in the eyes, and being forward, direct and honest.

Skills

Whoever you are, you have some skills that not everyone has in the same way as you, and working on developing them is one of the best uses of your time that there is. But if you are not currently aware of what your skills are, then you might be in the position of having to try and discover them first, which might take time and could be frustrating at first if you are not sure quite what you are doing. Nonetheless, it will absolutely be worth it when you realize that by developing your skills, you will be doing nothing less than ensuring that you have more to do with your life, and that you can build your life around doing what you love rather than a weird sense of obligation to something or somebody else. Develop your skills in quietude and you will find that life is a lot easier to deal with.

Communication

Being able to communicate clearly and confidently with others is a huge part of ensuring that you are going to be happy in life and be able to be a part of any social situation. Truly, as long as you can communicate well, you will find the world falling into your lap, so this is something which you might want to consider if you think of yourself as shy or lacking in social skills. These might be true, but you can take classes, read books and generally practice, and you will find that you can almost certain improve your communication with others easily enough.

Stay Gorgeous, Stay Healthy, Stay Financially Secure... It's Not Too Much To Have It All!

We live in an era where we’re constantly bombarded with images of beauty and perfection. We’re conditioned from a young age to believe that beauty and youth are the only things in life worth having. Airbrushed Hollywood starlets smile down at us from atop their hallowed billboard perches and we can’t help but wilt a little under their scrutiny. How can we possibly hope to ever achieve that same level of ageless beauty? Well, the cosmetics industry would have us believe that if we spend enough on the right products that this beauty can be ours. But while beauty products may have their place, our skincare regimen is just one piece of the puzzle. Here we’ll look at how your diet, an active lifestyle and just a little know-how  can keep you looking gorgeous while staying healthy and still avoiding a fortune spent on pricey cosmetics.

You can be beautiful without compromising your health or your bank balance. It’s not too much to ask to have it all!

You can’t buy beauty

Though many believe youth lies within the secret concoctions of anti-aging facial creams and a decent dye job to mask those pesky greys, surely it would more beneficial to just embrace the grey? As our minds and bodies age they become less able to hold their own against the barrage of cosmetic chemicals that are found in products such as hair dyes, hairsprays and skincare products.

Of course this depends on what kinds of products you’re purchasing, as some are more harmful than others. By the time we are aging to the point of grey, we’re aware what works for our bodies and may not. Which means that when your dyed hair begins to snap and break due to damage, you may wish you’d have embraced your silvery locks. So what is the solution to avoiding a cycle of endless hair dying and buying of expensive creams? Embrace the grey and ditch the creams for more natural treatments such as aloe vera and tea tree oils to keep your skin free of wrinkles, clean and healthy. Heck, with just a little knowhow you can even make your own treatments.

Ditch the western diet for a taste of the exotic

If your diet consists largely of meat and other animal proteins such as meat and dairy products you may actually be accelerating the aging process. The western diet has been linked not only to accelerated aging but to a range of serious health issues including obesity, diabetes and heart disease. But cutting back on animal products and upping your intake of wholesome veggies needn’t be boring. Many Asian countries for whom meat is a scarcity have been doing it for centuries. Try a different Thai cuisine or a Japanese dish that combines predominantly vegetarian recipes with some fish and limited meat. Not only will you enjoy some much needed variety, you’ll also stay in shape, look great and enjoy robust health. If you eschew take out and restaurants for good old fashioned home cooking, you’ll also save a fortune.

Get off the treadmill and start pulling (and pushing) your weight

Finally, while we all assume that regular cardiovascular exercise is the best way to attain a slim and youthful physique, we shouldn’t neglect the benefits of strength training. Whatever your age or body type, hitting the weights can help to sculpt your body, improve posture and boost your metabolism ensuring that you lose body fat and keep it off.

You don’t even need to join an expensive gym to do this, you can do it from home using your own body weight to test your strength.

Happy Thursday friends! I hope you are having a wonderful week so far. This week has been a long one for me. Coffee has been my best friend and have hardly had any time to execute any of my goals with the exception of finishing the boy's clothing shopping for the new school year. I hope you've had a much more successful week than me.

Thanks for stopping by and visiting the blog today. I know that I am eager to change up my western diet to a more eastern friendly one in hopes to lose weight and feel better.

Until next time.

Don't Change Careers Until You Consider These Three Things!

This post is contributed and contains affiliate links. By clicking on links I will not be compensated. All the views, thoughts, and/or opinions expressed in this article are those of the authors. I was financially compensated for the sharing of this article.

From time to time, everyone needs a change. Sometimes that change can be small like rearranging your home or changing your appearance. Other times, though, you need to make a more significant change. One of the biggest and most common changes people want to make is to change their career. Changing your career can be a seriously scary prospect. You might have put years of hard work into what you're currently doing and the idea of leaving that all behind can make it feel like a waste. But if you're looking at doing something new then there's a pretty good chance that you're not all the happy with what you're currently doing anyway. If you're really serious about making a change in your career, then make sure you think about these three important things.

The money problem

If you've decided to change careers then that might come with a chance that you're going to be moving down regarding your pay grade. This won't always happen, but it is something that you need to consider. If it looks like your career change will come with a drop in your salary, then you need to ask yourself if it's worth it. If you're changing careers to follow your passion, then you might well find yourself happy to make that sacrifice. If that's the case, then you need to make sure that you're in a position to do that. Make sure that you don't set yourself for any financial trouble. If you have a partner, make sure you discuss it with them. Uneven financial contributions can be a serious source of tension in a relationship.

Training

Depending on the type of career you're hoping to embark upon, you may well need to train for some time to actually get into that field. This is especially true for very specialized careers. If you’re looking to work with young people in some way the teacher training or studying for a masters in school counseling online      are going to be pretty essential Whatever you're going into then it's important that you understand the commitment that is involved in it. If you need to train to start a new career, then you need to be committed to seeing it through.

What are your transferable skills?

One of the things that put people off making a career change is the idea of having to develop and entirely new set of skills. Of course, there will always be new skills that you need to learn when you start any new career. But by the same token, you probably have a lot of skills that you can transfer to any new career regardless of what it is. Leadership, teamwork, organizational skills, meeting deadlines, customer service. All these skills will apply to just about any field of work. Make sure then when you're being interviewed for a new job that you highlight these transferable skills. This will do wonders for offsetting the hesitance employers might have about your potential lack of direct experience.

The reality of changing careers is that it can be incredibly difficult and it’s not something that you should, under any circumstances, take lightly. Make sure that you know what you’re getting into before you decide to walk out of the office for good.

A double update today. I hope you enjoy your Thursday. What are you looking forward to this weekend? Leave a comment below.

Have a splendid day friend's.

The Best Things You Can do for Your Children

This post is contributed and contains affiliate links. By clicking on links I will not be compensated. All the views, thoughts, and/or opinions expressed in this article are those of the authors. I was financially compensated for the sharing of this article.

Many parents stress over what they can and should do for their children. That’s only natural; after all, 90% of parenting is about stressing out. But you don’t need to stress all that much because there are plenty of easy things you can do that will set your children off on the right path in life. Read on now if you want to find out more about the very best things you can do for your children.

Teach Them Values and Ethics

Every parent wants their child to have the right values and ethics in life. But that’s not the sort of things that comes naturally to a child. Instead, it’s something that has to be taught and learned. Work on making sure that their ethics are positive and unselfish, and teach them the values that you think are most important. Over time, this will have a big impact.

Encourage Confidence and Humility

These two things might seem like they’re in conflict in some way, but they don’t have to be. It’s good for your kids to be confident because confident people are often more successful and generally more happy in life. At the same time, this has to be tempered with humility because no one wants their kids to lack something as important as that, and arrogance is never welcome.

Help Them to Get Active

Setting healthy habits in place for them for a long time to come is a really good idea. You don’t want to bring up your kids in a way that’s unhealthy for them. It will only make it more difficult for them to be healthy in adulthood. So invest in some equipment and get them some custom track and field uniforms; whatever it takes to get them active. It’ll benefit them massively in the long-term.

Spend Lots of Time With Them

Spending time with your kids is worth more than you realise. It’s this that will decide how happy and well-adjusted your kids are. If you spend all your time working late and not really paying attention to your kids, they will start seeking attention in unhelpful ways. So you really will do a lot for the wellbeing of your children simply by spending time with them.

Assist Them With Their Finances in College

These days, sending your kids to college when the time comes for that can be very difficult indeed. It’s so expensive, and you probably don’t want your son or daughter to be saddled with tons of debt. So by saving for their college education right now, you will be able to assist them with the financial side of things later on when they want to attend college.

Your children obviously mean everything to you, so it’s only right to do what you can to bring them up in the right way. You will help them to find happiness and healthiness in life if you set the right examples and show them the way forward. Each of the ideas discussed here will help them in a unique way.

Top of the morning to you lovelies. I am up bright and early, sipping on my coffee and listening to my Michael Buble station while I work on a few projects for work.

I know that some of you have already sent your little(s) back to school. I cannot believe that back-to-school season is here! Our big boys start school at the end of the month. I feel like I have all sorts of things to do still, like buy their supplies for their classrooms and finish getting the rest of their new clothes.

On another note, I wanted to share this article with you because I felt that it would be beneficial to you. What I love about it is that the five tasks are so simple and easy to do on a daily basis with your children.

You can never go wrong with teaching your children values and ethics. Right now our children are struggling with telling lies. My husband and I are working very closely to teach them that lying is wrong and has a ripple effect on the lair.  It will be a crucial learning moment, especially for my oldest son Amari who keeps telling lies.

I also wanted to emphasize the importance of saving for your child's college education. Higher Ed is already expensive, but imagine how much more expensive it will be in the next decade? With the cost of tuition increasing by 5% each year, it's estimated that a 4-year public (in-state) will cost around $41,500 for tuition alone. And that is not including any fees or room/board. If your child wants to attend a college out of state or a private college, it will cost double or even triple that number. Yikes, right?

I started using an online savings app called Kid Fund for each of my kids. With the click of a button on my phone, I can add money to each of their accounts each month. It's safe, secure, and easy to use.

Thanks for visiting the blog today. Until next time.

Sunshine Blogger Award

About a week ago, I was nominated for the Sunshine Blogger Award by Anjhanee at Simply Anjhanee. Go on over to her blog and show her some love. She deserves it and her blog is amazing. I subscribed right away and have been following her blog ever since. Her blog focuses on beauty and lifestyle and all things in between.

When I saw that she had nominated me for the Sunshine Blogger Award, I was shocked, surprised, and a little in awe that someone who had never met me before nominated me for an award. Thank you so much Anjhanee for thinking of me. I truly means a lot to me and I hope that we can continue to be blogging friends. She asked some really great questions of her nominees and I bounced around for a few days trying to figure out how to best answer them.

The Sunshine Blogger Award is given to bloggers by other bloggers who are creative, inspiring, and radiate positivity. Because this award is nominated by other bloggers, there are some rules.

RULES

Thank the blogger who nominated you and link their blog so others can find them.

Nominate 11 bloggers and ask them 11 different questions.
List the rules and display the Sunshine blogger award logo in your post and/or on your blog site.

Here are the answers to My Questions from Anjhanee:

  • What is your favorite food of all time?
I actually don’t have just one favorite food. I enjoy trying new foods from various cultural backgrounds. I love pho, sushi, and anything Thai food related. I also really love spicy kimchi. I could eat a whole jar by its self or with a side of steamed rice. And I love asada tacos. I could them all day every day. So pho, sushi, anything Thai, spicy kimchi, and asada tacos are my jam!

  • What is your biggest blog accomplishment to date? How did it feel to reach that accomplishment?
I still feel like am learning this while blogging thing. I read a lot of articles and study some of my favorite bloggers and try to learn from them.

About two years ago I decided that I wanted to reach a bigger audience and start making money. I slowly am getting there. June was the first month that I actually made any money blogging. I was pretty proud of myself too.

  • How long have you been blogging, and what made you start blogging?
I started blogging back in December of 2010. So 8 years but going on 9 now. When I first started blogging, I wanted to document everything pertaining to my baby and being a new mom. I documented everything!

  • What are the Top 2 destinations that’d you’d like to visit, and why? (choose places that you’ve never been)
I have never been outside of the states... I dream of one day touring all of Europe and I really want to go to South Korea. I also want to go on a cruise to the Caribbean islands.

  • Name one item that is on your ‘wish-list’. Why? (does not have to be beauty related)
I really want a Kitchen Aid mixer. I have been asking for one for years! Literally every birthday and holiday. One day I will get one. I’m optimistic. And I have hope.

  • You’re given the opportunity to live in either New York, California, or London for one year to collaborate with fellow content creators. Which city would you choose, and why?
That is a hard one... I have been to NYC and I loved it but I could never live there. I was born in SoCal and I absolutely miss it! I’ve never been to London but would love to go. I think I would choose London because I am a history buff and that city is full of history.

  • If you could only use one platform to promote your blog for an entire year, which would you choose? Why?
Hands down, Twitter. I have the largest following on there and it’s easier to engage and interact with followers and other bloggers.

  • What are the Top 2 company’s (or brands) that you would love the opportunity to work with? Why those two?
I would love to work with Target. I love Target. I shop there for everything and as a mom, it’s my one-stop-shop. Plus, it’s affordable and everything is super cute!

I also would love to work with Fisher Price. I think it would be fun to promote their toys for kids. I know my kids would love getting new toys and reviewing it.

  • When do you feel the most inspired, in the daytime or at night?
I am most inspired during the night. When I get the kids to bed it’s when I write. I think I am still used to my college days when I stayed up until 2 am writing papers.

  • Your television is stuck on the last thing that you watched, what’s playing?
Okay... don’t laugh at me but I am obsessed with Korean dramas right now. I am currently watching a show called Black on Netflix and I am hooked! It’s the best show ever.

  • By the end of the year, what do you hope to have accomplished for your blog?
I would love to reach 2K following on Instagram. 10K following on Twitter. And at least 2K monthly page views on the blog.

I NOMINATE THE FOLLOWING BLOGGERS:

  • What is the meaning behind your blog name? How did you choose it? Why did you pick it?
  • What is your favorite post that you have shared on your blog and why?
  • How long have you been blogging, and what made you start blogging?
  • If you could go anywhere on vacation, where would you go?
  • Who are your top three favorite bloggers and what do you like about them? What keeps you going back to their blogs?
  • Do you take your own blog photos or do you hire someone to them for you?
  • What is your favorite social media platform for your blog and why do you use it?
