4 Fun Craft Projects You Can Do With An Old Coffee Mug

This post is contributed.

Crafting is a great way to take something boring and make it into something special. A plain white mug is pretty boring but there are so many great craft ideas that you can do with one to make it into a more interesting coffee mug or something else entirely. If you’ve collected a load of mugs over the years that you don’t really use, these are some of the great things that you can do with them.

Plant Pots

One of the easiest ways to create a great atmosphere in the home is to put some plants around the place. You could spend a load of money on some ceramic pots from a garden centre or you could make something more unique and save some money at the same time by using mugs instead. They’re ideal for small plants like succulents or cacti and you can use them for a herb garden as well. You can decorate them any way that you like or even just leave them plain, they’ll still look great.

Vinyl Designs

If you want to put some more complex designs on your mugs to make them a little more interesting, you can use vinyl. You’ll need to get a cutter to cut out the designs for you because it can be a little tricky but there are plenty of great craft projects that you can do with vinyl so it’s a worthwhile investment. Check out vinylcuttingmachineguide.com for some more information on choosing the right one. Working with vinyl is great because you can create pretty much any design that you want, but it is difficult to get the hang of it so don’t expect to make it perfect the first time around.

Chalkboard Mug

Those are all great ideas for bringing a boring old mug back to life, but what if you can’t decide on just one design? Why not just make yourself a chalkboard mug instead so you can doodle something new on it every day? It’s so easy to make, you can just pick up some chalkboard paint from any good DIY or craft store and paint your mug. It’s ideal for work as well because you can use it to take notes so you don’t forget things. Just make sure that you’re careful when you’re painting it and you’re not getting any on the inside of the mug because it’s not safe for drinking.

Sharpie Mugs

There’s no need to spend your time looking for specific ceramic paints if you want to jazz up your mugs, you can just use a sharpie marker instead. It’s the easiest way to decorate a mug because you can just draw the designs on instead of having to mess around with paintbrushes. You’ve got to be careful though because a lot of people try to make a sharpie mug and then find that it all comes off when they wash it. That’s because they’re using the wrong type of sharpie. The standard ones won’t work, you need to find the oil based ones instead. They won’t rub off when you wash them.

These are all great ways that you can use your boring old mugs and do something more interesting with them.

Until next time my friends. Have a great day.

XOXO,
