There’s no doubt that having kids shifts your perspective on life. Pretty much everything in your life changes when you start a family. After all, you’ve gone from taking care of your own needs to putting someone else first every time. All this change can get tough. One of the main areas that many new moms struggle with is their changing bodies.

Constantly seeing photos of celebrities that bounced right back after birth everywhere you look is so unhelpful. Unfortunately, this can make you feel bad about yourself. Many new parents feel this way. But the good news is that there are lots of different things you can do to improve your body confidence.

While they haven’t physically carried the baby or labored them, many men also find their bodies changing when they become parents. You’ve probably heard people describe a man as having a ‘dad bod,’ and it’s normally done in a critical way.

Recognizing how yourself and your partner feel right now is important. Being open and acknowledging how you both feel is really helpful. You can then work together to get body confident and feel great in your new chapter as parents. Here’s some ideas to help you get started:

Identify what’s making you unhappy

Sometimes, a lack of body confidence can be a very general feeling toward your appearance. Other times, you may feel very strongly about a part of your body. For men, a common area that causes a lack of confidence is their chest. Having excess fat on the chest can leave men feeling uncomfortable in their clothing choices and concerned about being seen without a top on in front of others. This isn’t an issue that you just need to ignore and live with. There are things you can do to help. Firstly, it’s essential to understand exactly what is causing this issue. It could be simply excess fat, or it could be something called gynecomastia. You can check this blog to learn more about the differences between the two and what can be done to help.

Exercise together

After having a baby, it’s essential not to put too much pressure on yourself. Getting back to working out too soon can be counterproductive. Your body needs time to heal properly before you launch yourself into any kind of fitness regime. So, be sure to get yourself checked over before you start exercising again.

When you’re ready to exercise, it can be the perfect opportunity to spend time together. Working out as a couple is a great bonding experience. Even if you just head out for walks together with the baby, it’s a great way to be active and get some fresh air at the same time.

Nourish your body

One truly effective way to improve your body confidence is to be gentle with yourself. Showing your body lots of care is essential. Nourishing your body with healthy foods and being kind to yourself really makes a huge difference in how you feel.
