If you are like me, you're always trying to find ways to stick to a budget when it comes to clothing your children. There are times when buying brand new clothes can get pricey depending upon where you shop. I allot each one of my three little humans with a monthly budget of $25 for either new shoes or clothes depending on their needs. They grow nonstop and need new clothes and shoes pretty much every other day. I want to get the best bang for my buck so I started shopping at local consignment stores in my area.

Before having children I would have never thought, let alone dreamt of shopping at one. I grew up living in generational poverty which meant all of my clothes from the time I was little up until I got my very first job at the age of fourteen were thrift store goodies. I learned to be frugal but also learned the art of looking thoroughly at used clothing from thrift shops. You can say I am pretty good at poppin' tags. It's a skill that comes in handy every time I shop for used clothes for my son's and daughter.

I have put together a list of my top five consignment shops in the Portland Metro area and in the Couv for those who are interested in checking them out. There are a lot of great shops in the area but these five are the ones I frequent the most and have found amazing deals and items.

1. Once Upon A Child || Vancouver, WA

I love this consignment so much. Hands down it is the best one in Vancouver in my opinion. If you have clothes that no longer fit your little one(s) and are in good condition  (no holes or stains) they will pay you cash for your clothes. I have taken boxes of clothes there to trade-in. The staff is great and it is neatly organized by gender and age (preemie to age eight). They also have a book and toy section as well as a play area for the kids so mom can shop without being bombarded by little kids. I first stumbled upon Once Upon A Child by accident six years ago. I just happened to be driving by and stopped to check it out. I instantly fell in love. I have purchased gently used items and have also scored brand new items with the tags still on them. There is nothing better than getting new items for half the price.

2.  Beanstalk Children's Resale Clothing || Portland, OR

Beanstalk is wonderful. I have never sold to this shop but have found some goodies for my daughter here while on my lunch breaks. I have purchased her some darling little dresses, all of her swimsuits as well as a brand new Bumbo in a box for $19! Score for this frugal mom The staff here at the Beanstalk are very friendly and helpful. I always feel welcomed here. They also sell local items like amber teething necklaces, tutu's, and pretty hair clips.

3. Baby Goods (formally known as Other Mother's) || Gresham, OR

I have been here a handful of times and have found some great items for my daughter and my youngest boy when he could still fit into toddler sizes. They also sell maternity clothes for expecting mothers. They have some brand new items and gently used items in great condition. My last Baby Good's hull was a pair of new magenta leggings, a sweater, and a shirt for $7. They also will buy items from you. I'm not sure if it's cashback or store credit only though seeing as I have never sold to them before. Baby Good's is pretty deep in Gresham but definitely worth the drive. You can find some great deals and cute clothes for your kids here. I highly recommend visiting this consignment.

4. Tiny Hiny's || Vancouver, WA

The name of this consignment is just the cutest! I love, love, love this place. It's absolutely darling and the woman who owns it is the sweetest lady. I stumbled upon this shop by accident four springs ago. It was a few weeks after we found out we were going to have a girl. I had a box of my youngest son's baby clothes and took it inside to see if she would take any items. While inside I found some great items for my daughter here and they have some great sales. I highly recommend checking this consignment out. It's great and super cute inside!

5. Goodwill || Vancouver, WA

I have been here a million times and have found some great little outfits for the kids over the past year. Most of the items I purchased were new and with tags from Target though. I frequent the following Goodwill locations, 122nd + Halsey Stree (Portland), NE Burnside (Gresham), and Fourth Plain Boulevard (Vancouver). I usually go to the one on Halsey because it's closer to my work and I like to pop in on lunch breaks. I found new hoodies, tops, dresses, and shoes for my kids. I also have snagged some cute home decor items too.

I hope this mini-review is helpful to those of you living in the Portland and Vancouver areas. If you shop at a consignment shop that is not on the list, I would love to check them out. Leave me a comment or email me at simplydurantblog@yahoo.com with the name of your favorite shops and I will happily check them out and expand this list.

Until next time.
