Dressing For The Office When It's Hot Outside

This post is contributed.

Happy New Year friends! I hope you had a grand ol' time ringing in 2019 with your family and friends. We just stayed home. The kids were fast asleep by nine and I was still recovering from a horrendous cold that hit me the week of Christmas.

I know that its winter and this post is a tad bit early season-wise, but for those who live in warmer climates like SoCal, Arizona, Texas, etc., this post may be beneficial for you when it comes to choosing an outfit for the office when its hot outside. I know I will be implementing some of these tips into my spring and summer wardrobe this year.

Typical office clothing does not accommodate most weather types. From pouring rain to heavy snow, workwear isn’t necessarily the most practical of clothing choices. The same goes for hot weather. Who wants to rock a suit when you feel like you’re melting inside? Navigating office style in hot weather is tricky, but with a few style tips, you can still look smart while keeping your cool in the office. Pick the right fabrics

The right fabric can make a big difference to your comfort levels on a hot day. Wearing something breathable, that doesn’t cling will help you to stay cool and make those temperatures more bearable. Think silk, linen and muslin-style fabrics to help you keep cool. Get to know the best fabrics for summer dressing to help you plan your heat-friendly work wardrobe.

Know how much flesh is too much

While you might be tempted to opt for your skimpiest clothes to help you function in the heat, most office environments still have an expected dress code that you should do your best to follow. Over-revealing clothing is a no-no, so ditch the mini dresses and plunging tops and instead, look to find a balance. A short-sleeved or sleeveless top will look tasteful with a midi-length skirt or capri pants, while a tailored short can look great with a long-sleeved, lightweight top. Mix and match some basic items and you’ll easily hit the right note.

Invest in some stylish summer dresses

You can’t go wrong with a tasteful, stylish summer dress to help you out when it’s too hot outside. Something in a floaty style can help you feel more comfortable, and can easily be dressed up with a lightweight blazer or jacket for a meeting. Petal and Pup sell some excellent dress styles with some modest lengths that make them ideal for work dressing in warmer weather. Add some style to your look with a cinched-in belt and some jewelry for a work look you can throw on and go.

Go casual with your footwear

Wearing heels in the office can be uncomfortable at the best of times. But when it’s hot outside and your feet are swelling in the heat, the last thing you want to do is force on a pair of heels. There are multiple styles you can create using sneakers and other casual shoes that will look stylish and smart in the office. Choosing the right style of footwear can help you keep your comfort even when it’s hot outside, giving you one less thing to worry about when it comes to styling your work look.

Finding appropriate workwear for hot weather isn’t always easy, but if you keep your look simple and stylish, you’ll soon get the hang of heatwave dressing. Remember to drink plenty of water to keep you hydrated, and a desk fan is always a worthwhile investment to keep cool on those particularly sweaty days.
