Things I Look Forward To About Summer

Summer in the Pacific Northwest doesn't really start for us until July. I know, a total bummer if you ask me; us North-westerners are content with that though. You can't pass up seventy-five degree weather with mild humidity and no rain for two months. Tolerating the grayest skies that you have ever seen and the rain for ten straight months does not come easy but once summer hits the antagonizing wait is worth it. We have some of the most beautiful summers even though the Pacific Ocean is a little too cold to swim in. It still doesn't stop some of us from swimming in it though. We're crazy like that! Here are my top six things that I look forward to about the summer.

1. Mr Sun, Sun, Mr Golden Sun!
We hardly see the sun here (except on very rare occasions), but when he finally does come out you can bet that we are soaking up his rays and enjoying it. There is nothing more magical than waking up to the sun streaking through your bedroom curtains and starting your morning right in the summer. The sun just makes everything better! And you can't pass up that wonderful glow that it gives your skin. ;]

2.  Summer Sandals
There is no denying that I am not a shoeaholic. I love shoes! I have way to many pairs but can't find myself ever giving any of them up. If I could, I would buy a new pair of shoes every day. I love me boots in the fall and winter months and I love sandals in the summer!

3. Oregon Beaches
I am pretty biased when it comes to beaches. I grew up in Oregon. I am used to beautiful beaches (though a little chilly at times and rather rocky). Only those who are brave enough to endure the freezing cold Pacific Ocean with its undertows, sneaker waves, and drop-offs will swim in it. Back in the day, I was one of those brave souls. Since living in Washington I've come to appreciate Oregon's beaches. In Oregon its illegal to drive your car on the beach. Its a damn shame that it isn't illegal in Washington. I almost had a heart attack the first time I went to Long Beach, Washington and saw cars parked on the shores of the beach. I was shocked and appalled. Blame the Greener in me! If I had to choose between Oregon and Washington beaches it is no toss up in which one I would pick. Oregon would win by a landslide. Hello! Goonies was filmed in Astoria and Free Willy was filmed in Newport. Have you seen the beaches? Gorgeous! There also is something magical about the waves hitting against the rocky cliffs and the vivid green Evergreen trees and ferns that grow in the Northwest.  You have to see it to believe it, but once you see it, you'll want to stay! :] Plus the coastal clam chowder and oyster stew is to die for! ;D

4. Summer Fruit
I love summer fruits! Strawberries, blackberries, and raspberries are some of my favorite summer fruits. You can also throw in watermelon and mangoes. I could literally live of fruit during the summer months. There are so many delicious fruits to choose from and I look forward to them every year. The wait is worth it, although...I really want me some peaches and wish I lived in the south right now. I blame it on my growing bump. Baby wants some peaches!

5. Swimming
Nothing screams summer like swimming! I love watching Amari swim. He is such a joy to watch. He truly adores the water and I adore watching him swim. Plus, all toddlers look super cute with their Buddah bellies hanging out of their swim suits! =D

6. Barbecue! Yum, Yum.
It isn't really summer until you bust out the grill and get cooking. It doesn't matter what you cook, just as long as it's grilled. Barbecue to me is comfort food. Sometimes I wish I lived in the south so I could get my grub on brisket and other forms of delicious barbecue. Famous Dave's will have to do for now.

And these are the little things that I adore about the summer. I may have missed a few things, but that's okay. I have all summer to talk about it. :]
